(Washington, D.C.) – International Food Information Council (IFIC) Foundation Senior Vice President of Nutrition and Food Safety Marianne Smith Edge, MS, RD, LD, FADA provided oral comments today on the “Scientific Report of the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.” IFIC Foundation was one of 70 participants to give testimony.
In the oral comments, Smith Edge focused on:
- How positive and actionable messaging about weight management and physical activity that relate to real-life experiences will empower consumers to make healthful decisions.
- Conflicting recommendations on safety and effectiveness of low-calorie sweeteners
- Consumers’ insights from the IFIC Foundation’s research on nutrition fact panel, “Added Sugars” and Front-of-Pack Labeling.
“Further consumer research is critical to understand the motivations and challenges consumers face in label comprehension and adopting healthful eating patterns,” said Smith Edge.
